Deskripsi
My work explores the intersection of everyday life, vernacular culture, and self-expression through textiles. This series of handkerchief artworks reimagines a common household objectthe checkered dish towelby layering it with vibrant, hand-drawn depictions of animals closely tied to street food culture and local identity. These textiles, often overlooked in their utility, become a canvas for storytelling. The imagery references Indonesias rich gastronomic and visual landscape, featuring catfish, chicken, and crustaceans commonly found in traditional markets as Warung Pecel Lele. By combining familiar motifs with a humble yet nostalgic material, I aim to evoke a sense of warmth, memory, and cultural continuity. Through this work, I invite viewers to reconsider the objects around themhow they shape our daily rituals, carry histories, and serve as vessels for contemporary expression. The interplay between mass-produced patterns and hand-drawn imagery also speaks to the evolving dialogue between craft and industry, tradition and innovation.
